Adopt a Pit Bull Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

Meet Clement the mini pibble! This nugget is only a whopping 40 pounds, but he makes up for it with his goofy personality and puppy-like zoomies (which are on hold for the moment since he is heartworm positive). This guy came to us after landing in an NC animal shelter as a stray in terrible shape a couple of months ago (we've included a picture of him from the day he came into the shelter). His skin was a mess, he smelled, he had on a collar that had layers of dirt caked and set in to it, scarring on his face, a handful of significantly filed down teeth, and he tested positive for heartworms. Needless to say, he was in bad shape. The good news is, he's on the mend! His skin infections have resolved, he's undergoing heartworm treatment, and should be better in no time at all. 

Clemmy is doing really well in his foster home and he's definitely come out of his shell in the past couple of months. He absolutely loves to snuggle (with both people and other puppuhs) and enjoys being where his people are. He gets along well with his foster brother and foster sister, too. He's also learned what toys are, and has started taking to playing with them. He walks well on a leash and is very food motivated, which has made him easy to work with and train! He also knows how to rock ducky onesie peejams like a boss ;)

It's obvious to us that this boy lived a very tough life prior to coming to our rescue, so we are looking for a patient and understanding adopter for him. He still flinches and squints his eyes when we raise a hand over his head, and he startles easily in his sleep. He also does not like unknown dogs jumping or pawing at his face (we can only imagine why; that being said, he is not bothered by his foster brother and foster sister doing this, but that was after several weeks' worth of introductions and structured interactions).
